Illustration 2

In this assignment, we were to create a label for a product entirely in Illustrator. There were a few stipulations: no photos, whatsoever, the shape of the label had to be created from three shapes and combined using the pathfinder tool, add illustrative elements, use gradients & opacity and finally, add effects to the text.

I started working on this with a color pallet in mind. I made my shape with the pathfinder and started playing with colors. I quickly decided to do something Southern-inspired. So, I looked up traditional Southern architecture to get line inspirations.

From this photo, I drew a fence:

When I lived in Alabama, we had willow trees in our yard and I've loved them ever since. So, I google-image-searched willow trees and drew a leaf. One leaf. Then I copied it and tweaked it and layed out 2 branches. More copies, tweaks, ect...to create the flowing branches.

I love naming things with rich words that evoke feelings. So, if the fence (Southern house inspired) and the willow tree don't make you think of the South, maybe the name will: seersucker. My fantasy product is all natural beauty good created with Southern ingredients. Hence, "charming confections."

And here's my entry for Overachievers Anonymous:

I'm kind of tempted to expand my line...
